Brian Elstak is your friendly neighbourhood artist. Armed only with a pencil as sharp as his wits. He is a visual artist, illustrator, painter, children's book writer and connector between all sorts of creatives and storytellers. His work was featured at the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam Museum, Museum Het Rembrandthuis, The Black Archives and TENT Rotterdam. In 2018 he was awarded the prestigious Zilveren Penseel for his children’s book, TORI (Das Mag). Elstak is also part of art collective LFMC (Lowrey Foley McClane).
We asked Brian which music inspires him to create, and he delivered us a musical ode to the Black Lives Matter movement: mixed by Evelyn Rae.
“Music is an important factor in my art. Like a score to a movie. When I create, certain tracks pump me up. The tunes often dictate the colors I use. Powerful rhythms and dope beats take over my brush and pen strokes. Music is always playing when I draw and paint. It powers my process.”
